Letter from Heidi.
If you’ve been pregnant or you're a mom, you’ve been there. We all have.
The midnight spiral over an unexplained feeling—physical or emotional. The questions that keep you awake because they feel too big, too uncomfortable, or too complicated to bring up at a rushed appointment.
Is this normal? Is this anxiety—or something more? Should I be worried about how I’m coping? Should I tell someone?
Too often, mothers hesitate to reach out—afraid of being judged, dismissed, or told they should “just be grateful.” But pregnancy and motherhood don’t pause mental health struggles, relationship stress, or substance use concerns. And they certainly don’t take nights, weekends, or moments of vulnerability off.
That’s why we created What to Expect Care. We’re here to fill the gaps—to provide compassionate, judgment-free support for the emotional and psychological realities of pregnancy and postpartum. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship stress, or concerns about substance use, our care team is here to listen, support, and guide—when questions arise and when support matters most.
Like the What to Expect books and app, we believe mothers deserve a village. One that shows up without shame. One that understands the complexity of mental health during this season of life. One that offers empathy, reassurance, and evidence-based care—without judgment, and without delay.
Built by moms, for moms, What to Expect Care brings together OBGYNs, psychiatrists, and therapists to support the whole person—mind and body—through pregnancy and motherhood. Because mental health is maternal health. And every mother deserves care that is compassionate, respectful, and responsive.
As I’ve always said, “Motherhood is the ultimate sisterhood.”
And no one should have to navigate it alone.
Hugs,
Heidi Murkoff
